About the Author
Ricardo Trinidad grew up on the South Side of Chicago, where he learned early that success is not determined by where you start in life, but by your willingness to keep moving forward when life gets difficult.
Raised with humble beginnings, Ricardo was taught the value of hard work, perseverance, and helping others. Those lessons would guide him through one of the biggest decisions of his life.
In 1996, he quit his job and decided to start a business with only $3,000 to his name.
There were no investors, no wealthy backers, and no guarantee that he would succeed. What he did have was a dream, an unwavering belief in himself, and a group of friends, family members, customers, and mentors who were willing to take a chance on him before success ever arrived.
In the early days, every dollar mattered. To save money, Ricardo would host what he jokingly called “stamp-licking parties.” Friends would gather around a table with pizza, folding letters, stuffing envelopes, and helping prepare direct mail campaigns to attract new customers.
One envelope at a time.
One customer at a time.
One opportunity at a time.
What started as a leap of faith grew into Telcom & Data, a technology company that has served customers throughout the United States for nearly three decades. Along the way, Ricardo has worked with organizations ranging from local schools and small businesses to some of the largest corporations, manufacturers, government agencies, military facilities, and institutions in the world.
Yet the greatest lessons he learned were not about technology or business.
They were about people.
Over the years, Ricardo interviewed job candidates, hired employees, built sales teams, mentored young professionals, and watched countless individuals either seize opportunities or allow fear and self-doubt to hold them back.
He discovered that the people who succeed are not always the smartest, wealthiest, or most connected. More often, they are the people who are willing to prepare, take action, build relationships, and keep moving forward despite uncertainty.
That realization became the foundation for 123 Got My Job.
Today, Ricardo is also the founder of BasketSoul, an organization dedicated to helping young people build confidence, resilience, leadership, and emotional wellness through mentorship, movement, mindfulness, and personal development. Through BasketSoul, he continues his mission of helping others recognize their value and discover what is possible when they believe in themselves.
Whether speaking to students, entrepreneurs, job seekers, or business leaders, Ricardo shares the same message that transformed his own life:
You do not need perfect circumstances to create an extraordinary future.
Sometimes all it takes is a dream, a few people willing to believe in you, and the courage to take the first step.
